Selena and Dakota Fanning battling for ‘The Seven Rays’ lead

Selena Gomez, 17 and Dakota Fanning, 16 are both being considered for the lead role in the upcoming movie based on the novel The Seven Rays. The novel’s author, Jessica Bendinger, admits she can see both both young starlets, as well as Taylor Swift, playing the role. In an interview with IESB.net the first time author said, “I love the idea of someone doing a successful hair or eye color change that really works. I find that fascinating. May the best woman win the part.”

The Seven Rays follows 17 year-old Beth Michaels who uncovers elements of the supernatural on her journey of self discovery after realizing the woman she thought was her mother has been lying the whole time.

Dakota Fanning is the most experienced movie actress of the three mentioned. Just in the last year, the sixteen year old starred in The Twilight Saga: New Moon, The Runaways, and the upcoming The Twilight Saga: Eclipse along with several other projects. Selena Gomez is one of The Disney Channel’s hottest young stars. The seventeen year old is the star of Wizards of Waverly Place and has appeared in numerous movies including the upcoming Ramona and Beezus (July 2010). The actress and recording artist has also landed a role in Monte Carlo which hasn’t started production yet. Taylor Swift is best known as a country superstar but has appeared in a hand full of movies including a small role in this year’s Hollywood-who’s-who, Valentine’s Day.

The Seven Rays is Bendinger’s first novel, but she’s no stranger to the big screen. Bendinger is a screenwriter who’s written Bring It On, produced The Wedding Date, and directed Stick It. She also works as a writer and consultant on Sex and the City.
